King's treatment of bdsm in this hermetic journey of F/m D/s relationships is both erotic in a strange and hyperbolic way, as well as ironic in its use of deadpan humor.
Her style is very simple which somehow makes it both sensual and imaginatively raunchy.
More importantly, the book is a new view of BDSM relationships, a field that tends to have ritualized even its fiction. That can make for arid reading but not here. It takes a while to get on King's wavelength, but when you do, it is an unusual and very creative experience.
